2008 is going to be a great year. Date: 1/7/2008 12:00:00 AM
2007 was terrificly rewarding for me, especially the Portugalia Open Mic. I finished recording the next three Jefferson Jay albums and writing an unexpected screenplay with a friend. These types of accomplishments yield a defined product that you can look at or hold. You create them, then try to sell them. Ultimately, best case scenario, they end up sitting somewhere on a shelf. Live events, on the other hand, take on a life of their own. The Portugalia Open Mic was a phenomenon last year, beyond my expectations. Packed so many Tuesdays. People treating each other so much respect and interest. Relationships blossomed and friendships grew. Meanwhile, consistantly, every Tuesday night from late June through December, the participants created great shows. Hilarious unpredictable heart-felt reality took over a room and made it feel like a family at its highest point. At one point the show even had a baby. Another time, a five year old stole the show. Phenomena by their nature are hard to explain and beg the phrase, "you had to be there." Well, fortunately, you can be there as we return tomorrow night. Tuesday nights at Portugalia. The open mic returns tomorrow at 9PM. Thanks to all the undercover legends who helped make that show what it was. This year I pledge to do what I can to bring our bizarre bliss to the world. 2008 is going to be a great year. Peace
